College Costs Are Soaring...

Whether your children or grandchildren are toddlers or teenagers, it's only a matter of time before they leave the family home, probably as they head off to college.  The cost of sending just one child to college for four years can be staggering, and tuition and fee hikes regularly outpace inflation.  (The same can be said for private elementary or secondary school expenses.)

As the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education reported in 2008 in its biennial report, college tuition and fees rose 439% from 1982 to 2007, adjusted for inflation, while median family income rose 147% during the same period.  In the period between 2000 and 2007 alone, the average cost to attend a public school increased 47%.

Fortunately, parents who intend to cover or contribute to their children's education costs have more choices today than they've ever had.  If you've not yet looked into an education savings plan, we can help you choose among a variety of savings vehicles, including 529 plans, Coverdell Education Savings Accounts and UGMA/UTMA accounts
